Public Realm Improvements (Update)

Leitrim County Council are undertaking a Public Realm Improvement Works Scheme in Mohill and have appointed Kerrigan Quarries Ltd to carry out the works. The aim is to make Mohill more attractive and accessible for pedestrians, drivers, residents and visitors alike. In 2020 Minister Heather Humphreys announced funding for this project by the Department of Rural and Community Development through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) with Leitrim County Council also contributing funding to ensure its completion.
Evaluation Process
In 2019, after extensive stakeholder consultation, an Economic Development Plan was produced for the town. The Town Health Check which was subsequently carried out in 2020 can be viewed on the Heritage Council website (www.heritagecouncil. ie) These reports highlight the town’s strengths and weaknesses, challenges and opportunities. Today’s public realm improvements will address some of the key issues raised.
Work to be Carried Out
The Scheme will include the widening of footpaths and the introduction of shared surface space to provide enhanced pedestrian crossings. Existing road surfaces and street lighting will be improved. Street furniture, signage and landscaping will be used to create social areas for community gatherings. Kerrigan Contractors will work with businesses and residents to navigate the disruption during this time.
